JAMES BROWN

528HZ - 963HZ

19 April - 11 May 2024

James Brown’s 528 HZ – 963 HZ, the artist’s first solo show, exists to share a feeling that is too big for words. It is an act of healing, a state of meditation, an immersive reflection of an emotion as vast and infinite as the universe; wild and alive like a Petri dish, welcoming others in, random and abstract, free.

Referred to as the love frequency and miracle tone, this tone resonates in oxygen, rainbows, grass, and chlorophyll, in the rays of the sun and in the buzz of the bees. It was used to clean the Gulf of Mexico after the BP spill of 2010. It was tuned by John Lennon as the basis of the song ‘Imagine’.

James Brown’s journey to heal love’s hurts, channelling energy and practices that lead to laughter, love, and god frequency; a single, simple feeling distilled in an endless tone. Brown makes his heart large enough for others to walk inside. Fluid, free, all-embracing, ephemeral, endless.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

James Brown's natural passion for visual communication, coupled with his uniquely humorous anti-establishment outlook, has charged the last 20 years of his place in the design and art world. From founding creative studios to reinventing bars and vibe dining spots, Browns' art has moved seamlessly from form to form.

Brown seeks to portray the magic of a lost world through a multiplicity of materials, melding them together into a dynamic exchange of juxtaposing images. Employing three complementary elements: visual art, design and "art-chitecture," James Brown's work transcends mainstream genres and art forms. Brown is evolving and forever reinventing, driven by re-imagining the societal norm; prolific, alluring and provocative.

If you have dined at Africola, Pastel, Chicco Palms, Hotel Jesus, Parwana, Motel Mexicola in Bali, or boogied at 1000 Island, Happy Paradise Hong Kong, or you have put Evo products on your hair, then you have been in contact with James Brown's expressive brain and visual language. Often drenched in neon, blending photo, painting, text and installation, Brown's work teleports us into a land of the less real and more joy. James stands in a unique place where senses are heightened and possibility is infinite.

James Brown has exhibited his work at Palais de Tokyo (Paris), SFMOMA (San Francisco), The Barbican (London), Centro Cultural El Rule (Mexico City), Museu da Lingua Portuguesa (Sao Paolo). Brown was the youngest person in the world to be accepted as a member of the A.G.I (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and ranked in Gourmet Traveller's Top 50 most influential creatives in Australia.
